I like to tell people that I am in the people business, not the paper business. Hiring managers do not hire a resume, they hire the person behind the resume. In our fast pace world it seems that the people who screen resumes are just looking for buzz words and a certain set of skills. So, it is incredibly important to have an effective resume because after all, that is what is going to get your foot in the door. However, it is your attitude and your aptitude that will knock doors down.
A good manager can teach you a new skill but no one can teach a person to have good interpersonal skills and solid work habits. You can have any job you apply for by simply letting those "soft" skills shine during the interview. Nobody wants to hear someone drone on and on about how awesome they are at a particular skill set or drop names of those nearly famous people in which they've have had close encounters.
Hiring managers want to see confidence with a dash of humility, someone who can explain a complex idea in simple terms and most of all someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously. So, go forth and be bold and but remember to let all your best qualities be on display.
